How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you contact us through our contact form, we retain the data for as long as is needed to deal with your enquiry, or as required by law.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments on this site or submitted a contact form, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. We use Dropbox to store backups of the data on the website which may include comments currently displayed the website and contact form submissions (not publicly visible). Backups are retained for 3 days although sometimes a master backup will be retained for up to 6 months. Our server provider EuroVPS takes daily backups and these are retained for 30 days.
How we protect your data
Your data once submitted (for example, through an enquiry form) may be backed up to Dropbox. You can see how Dropbox keeps your data safe here. Once your enquiry is complete, we will delete the information from the backup drive. We also use Gmail as our email provider. You can find out how Gmail keeps your data safe here.
Who we share your data with
We may need to pass the information you have provided to another solicitor if we cannot deal with the enquiry ourselves. In this case, we will ask your permission to pass on your details first. Other than this, we will not share your data with anyone else except with your express permission, unless required to do lawfully by an authority such as the Police.
